Exploring Kauehi Atoll by cruise means enjoying one of the most authentic experiences in the Tuamotu. Far from the beaten track, this preserved atoll offers breathtaking scenery, from reefs glowing gold and orange at sunset to crystal-clear waters in a thousand shades of blue.
Kauehi is home to a pass with exceptional visibility, reefs teeming with life, superb anchorages and, above all, a Paumotu community renowned for its hospitality. We spent almost a year here during lockdown, and we love sharing the special bonds we formed.

This itinerary is provided as a guide only. It adapts according to weather conditions, tides, and passenger preferences.
Day 1 — Arrival and Tearavero village

Board in Kauehi. Take your first swim in the superb bay by Tearavero village, then snorkel on a beautiful nearby reef. Visit the village before a pétanque aperitif with local residents—the best way to enter the Paumotu atmosphere.
Day 2 — Northern atoll and manta rays

Sail to the north of the atoll, opposite the lovely Kauehi Lodge guesthouse. Snorkel nearby to observe manta rays, then take your first steps across the reef as it reveals gold and orange colours at sunset—a breathtaking spectacle.
Day 3 — Kauehi Pass and a motu fire

Head for Kauehi Pass in the south-west of the atoll. Drift-snorkel through the pass and explore its outer reef, where visibility is exceptional—perfect for observing marine life and watching for larger visitors. Some can go spearfishing in the afternoon, while others try a smoking workshop or kayak along the motu. End the day with a wood-fire aperitif on the motu.
Day 4 — Dream motu in the south and Kaveka birds

Sail to the south of the island, opposite a splendid motu—undoubtedly one of the most beautiful anchorages we have explored. Observe Kaveka, endemic Tuamotu birds and Kauehi's emblem. Swim in a natural pool, a mini lagoon within the lagoon, or fish on foot for Maoa (a type of whelk) on the orange reef, to enjoy with your aperitif.
Day 5 — Relaxing and a barbecue under the stars

Some can relax on the beach, while others kayak or try foilboarding. Then go spearfishing and harpoon fishing for the evening barbecue by the water, under the stars!
Day 6 — East coast hike between lagoon and ocean

Head to the atoll's east coast for a highly photogenic hike between lagoon and ocean. After the effort comes the reward: swim in crystal-clear water and snorkel on a reef where every family of lagoon fish seems to have gathered.
Day 7 — Village and Paumotu culture

Return to the village. The programme features traditional Paumotu activities: a weaving or cooking workshop, an introduction to pa tiafa or a meeting with copra farmers. Enjoy a Tahitian bringue for your last evening!
Day 8 — Return to Tahiti
↓
After one last swim in Kauehi's lagoon, return to Tahiti.

We had an absolutely fabulous time aboard Na Maka with Nathalie, Jérôme, and their son Titouan. We sailed through a paradise setting before stopping on Kauehi Island. Thanks to Nathalie and Jérôme, we were able to meet the island's inhabitants, who welcomed us warmly and shared their lives with us for a few weeks. These memories will remain with us forever. We cannot wait to take another route with the Na Maka crew and continue discovering Polynesia! Our hosts have an excellent knowledge of the places they showed us in complete safety. Thanks to them, we discovered Polynesian culture, snorkelling, and magnificent seabeds, which made a deep impression on us. A thousand thanks to Jérôme, Nathalie, and Titouan!
Wonderful holidays. Jérôme and Nathalie know the best anchorages perfectly, making it possible to enjoy an exceptional Polynesian experience. We chose 20 days in the Tuamotus (Fakarava, Toau, and Kauhei). We loved discovering the seabed: multicoloured coral reefs and marine life whose diversity was incredible—the world of Nemo, but even better; even the sharks (peaceful...) were everywhere at every swim...!! Meeting the lovely, caring, and incredibly friendly people of Kauhei was a truly memorable experience. Life there is shaped by the weekly air link and the cargo ship that supplies the inhabitants every 15 days. A timeless escape if ever there was one. And then there was Namaka, which welcomed us throughout these wonderful days. It was very comfortable and reassuring when the sea grew rough outside the lagoons. Our hosts handled everything with confidence, mastering their subject with sailing CVs worthy of the greatest sailors. Life on board is cosy, the food is excellent, and the pace is gentle. We had a wonderful holiday!

As always, Nathalie and Jérôme were very welcoming hosts. They took us to discover different snorkeling spots, where we were able to admire many species of fish and even saw manta rays along the way.
We also had the opportunity to go cycling and share a brunch with the locals.
The meals were very generous and well prepared, and the boat was very comfortable.
The days went by so quickly because there was always something to do.
I will definitely come back, and I highly recommend an excursion aboard Namaka!
